Holiday Movie Watching: Home Alone

During the Christmas season, one of my must-watch Christmas movies is Home Alone. A definite classic, plus Marv's scream gets me every time.

And so brings the inevitable debate...

Marv's All-Time Best Scream: Tarantula vs. Bird Swarm.

I'm always torn....

The tarantula scream is just a great scene all together: Scream paired with Marv crow barring Harry

"Harry... don't move..."

"Marv..."
"Don't... move..."
"Marv, what are you doing... Marv..."

But the bird swarm scene has so much heart to it. Marv emerging from being mauled by pigeons to let out the most perfect scream of terror/hilarity. A great final way to catch the bad guys.

It's a tough call...

Days of Summer...

Well the last official day of summer 2011 is upon us and I must say it was a busy but enjoyable season.

I had the pleasure of visiting my friend at her family cottage last month and I took a few photos while I was there. It was so peaceful and relaxing on the lake with only a few other cottages who share the water. A perfect vacation from the city.

One of my favourite things about summertime is waking up early to enjoy my morning coffee by the stillness of the lake. So calming and peaceful with the warmth of the coffee paired with the warmth of the early morning. For me, the photo below captures this moment perfectly.

The Oldsmobile Complimentary Tape Cartridge.

I remember stumbling upon this beauty many years back... Our Oldsmobile was long gone, but the tape remained. I think I always thought it was one of those tapes used to clean the play heads so I didn't really pay it much attention...
I'm glad I took a second look...

An entire Oldsmobile line-up starting off strong with the Oldsmobile Jingle
Man, this song has heart. So much Oldsmobile pride. I got a kick out of this song then and I still love it now. I can just picture Oldsmobile owners, wind in hair, cruisin to the theme song. Too good.

For some reason, this Oldsmobile theme song recently came to mind while at work and I just had to share it's glory.... as it turns out, two of my coworkers actually are Oldsmobile owners. And no, they never did receive their Oldmobile Cruisin' Tapes... Problem solved. Mixed tapes completed.
And for those who haven't been exposed to the Oldsmobile theme song, here it is for all to enjoy...

Yes, yes they have.

It started back in '95 with the release of her Jagged Little Pill album and it's been going strong ever since. Even today, with short hair, and no new albums released recently, I still get random strangers asking me if anyone's ever told me I look like Alanis Morissette...

I must say, I do see the resemblance (and for those who have said they don't see it, take a look at the photo below - even my close family might be confused on this one...)

It may not have felt like it with the slight bit of snow floating around but spring is officially here! I must say my plants are really feelin it. I just noticed today that hidden amongst the leaves of my peace lily is its first spring bloom...

And ofcourse the plant who I call "Little Palm" never disappoints - he has some new leaves on the way and getting awkwardly taller each day...

I wish I could say the same for this guy below. He's gradually been getting smaller for the past couple months. I figured a repotting was in order (also demoting him to a smaller pot in the process) and I don't think he's gotten over it. Only one vine remains...

Luckily I anticipated this and I did a bit of damage control before the repotting... the offshoots are doing well and ready to be repotted, let's just hope that I can pull it off...

Whenever the topic of 80's horror movies comes up, I find myself talking about this scene from Demon of Paradise. So I decided to share it.
It involves a "carnivorous lizard-man" named Akua jumping out of the water to take down a helicopter (Lucky for everyone the "80's Horror Movie Channel" on You Tube posted this clip so we can all enjoy.)

I can't believe I missed it! I've been too busy in greeting card land that it passed right by. Well this calls for a belated celebration! I feel like I should do something for the occasion, a freebie or giveaway of some sort... but what?

Also, I wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone who's been following my blog (you guys are awesome), and another thank you to all those who leave comments and feedback. They are always very much appreciated ☺

Hello and Happy New Year Everyone!

I decided to start off my 2010 blog postings with an Illustration Friday post. This week's topic is renewal. I came across this comic I drew for my niece last year and feel it suits the topic.

My niece has this doll that I'm sure must have sounded normal at one point but by the time she got it, it was second hand and the voicebox just wasn't the same. It could only produce moans and slow dialog (we named the doll Creepy Baby) yet Ella (who at age two also called her doll Creepy Baby) didn't seem to mind.

When we'd ask her "What does your baby say?" she would respond (as above) "growwohwwhww"... it was too funny and definitely worth a comic.

Anyway, on the subject of renewal, almost one year later, my sister and Greg decide to try replacing Creepy Baby's voicebox batteries and, sure enough, no more demonic groans.

And there you have it. Creepy's sounding as good as new.

I have been meaning to draw up this comic for a while now. It is inspired by me and Paul Smeaton joking around before the start of the Run for the Toad in early October - Sorry about the poor rendering Paul :)

My card company had a little display beside the Genzyme booth at the Run for the Toad race expo so I had the pleasure to get to know Paul. He's hilarious. If you're ever in the market for some Synvisc, he's your man.

This week I wasn't really feelin' the topic so I stretched it a bit to include the theatricality (and ridiculousness) of my everyday...

This past Friday I came home from work to find that my landlord's building "renovations" had gotten a bit out of hand. They thought it would be a good idea to roller ALL the trees in the front yard half white (and the concrete trim for that matter)... faux birch I guess... My apartment building looks completely ridiculous.

Needless to say I had to include it in a comic. I used an actual photo instead of drawing the scene just to show that I'm not making these things up.

Those poor trees will never be the same...
